Activate the Pit! First gig of 2011...

Saturday night was by first live gig of 2011. Terror, First Blood, Lionheart and Backtrack. One nights of 2-step, songs under a minute long and fat men in shorts screaming like depraved children.

Couldn't be better really...

Now despite queuing up to buy a ticket by accident when I already had one I did manage to catch the end of the Backtrack set. From what I saw (not much) it was all good stuff. Pretty standard American hardcore.

Next up, after an admirably short changeover, came Lionheart. Being nearer to the stage and seeing the whole set was a help here and they were very impressive. I especially liked the fact their guitarist looked like a fat, punk version of the kid from Up but that’s not related. Again, good solid Hardcore, with a helpful bit of straightedge...

First Blood being the final support band were, as you'd expect, the best of the lot, just edging out Lionheart in terms of amount of scream but maybe losing out slightly on actual song quality. By this time there was some serious 2-stepping going on and the like. Perfect bit of stage setting for the main act.

When Terror did finaly make it on stage thing flew up a notch pronto. Their songs and stage presence out did the other bands by some way. Mixing old and new songs with vocalist Scott Vogal screaming like a mad man things went into overdrive pretty rapid. Have I ever seen so many stage divers at the same time? No. Did people start swinging off the air con unit? Yes. Was it an awesome set despite a fat man landing on my head? Of course.

And that was that. Show over by ten, no encore, a lot of sweat and a fair amount of blood. Terror were, as predicted, magnificent. Lionheart and First Blood well worth a listen, I'll probably be buying some of their stuff shortly. Backtrack? I didn't see enough to really have an opinion, which is a shame. Off to find them on the internet I guess....
