With my whole heart I support any promoter who, as you go to pay for your ticket has put up a little homemade sign telling you what time each band is going to play and what time the whole thing is going to finish. It not only shows that promoter has a lot of faith in everything running smoothly, but also means that people such as myself who commute a fair old distance to come to London shows can roughly guess what time they are going to get home by. Anyway enough of this praise of time-keeping and organisation, here's what went down at the Macbeth.
When I looked at the list of bands playing, I noticed that the Saxon mythology shredders Wayfarer had dropped out for some reason, so I wasn't particularly happy about that, but at the same time, paying £6 to see final rage and guilty was more than worth it, so when I finally got the Macbeth through the maze that is Shoreditch I was already excited.
First up was a band called "Jailbait" who sounded a bit like throats or a particularly guttural version of Hatebreed, who within the first 2 songs had already managed to blow up the PA extending their set only by 5 minutes thanks to a very resourceful sound guy. There were quite a lot of people moving around for them, and although I had no idea who they were until I saw them, I would say they definitely know how to put out wild and very loud hardcore riffment.
Next up were notorious straight edge mosh barons and relatively new band "Final Rage" who I have been very excited to see since I heard their demo late last year. Blasting through all their songs at a furious rate, and throwing in a cover too, and dedicating the song ‘Flawed Existence’ to his friends who had broken edge, Final Rage certainly lived up to their name of being furious and fast straight edge hardcore.
Then came up one of the bands I have been most excited to see in the last year, Sweden’s own hardcore metallers "Guilty" whose 7" release is one of my most played albums of last year. And boy did they not disappoint, they went straight into playing Intro and then Forced in rapid succession before playing some new stuff (what sounds a lot like Cruel Hand, which in my books is awesome) and the closing down on "Chaos Ensues" and "Departure" which prompted everyone just to go crazy. Awesome band, Lovely dudes and I can't wait for their new 7" to come out
Closing up proceedings were MHC's finest "Broken Teeth" who exploded onto stage and had people moshing all the way through their set. I don't really know much of their stuff and I’m not particularly into them (same applies to breaking point) but I know a good show when I see one and Broken Teeth certainly didn't disappoint.
